This is the end, beautiful friend. The end of laughter and soft lies.

May 15, 2015

It is with a heavy-heart that I look toward this weekend. As Sunday nights of the past would approach and the depression of the weekend ending starts to settle in, there was always one glimmer of light to settle in and enjoy an hour of Mad Men. That was then. Now we’re anticipating the end, which is saddening to begin with, but to watch our beloved characters being put through the ringer as the series winds down is simply excruciating. Watching these scenarios makes me want to pour stiffer drinks than Roger Sterling.

When a show as epic as Mad Men has pulled on your interests for so many seasons, and taken you to so many highs and lows along the way, you ultimately want to end with some sort of satisfaction. Yes, the happy ending we all secretly desire, unlike the fodder that was fed to us at the conclusion of The Sopranos. We want closure. We want the heroes to have the upper hand while smiting the ruthless villain. We want our male lead to end up with the damsel. We want the underdog to swing in and play the pivotal role driving the entire cast upward.

So as the finale approaches I’ll try to remain eager and excited…even if it’s just to see if Racine, Wisconsin gets a mention for the third consecutive week. That’s it. Roll film.
